Rawabi means the Hills in Arabic. Since 2010 the developer Bashar al-Masri has set out to build the first planned Palestinian city named after the West Bank country side.  He has faced major setbacks waiting for water connection from the Israeli run grid, which was granted in March of 2015.  A single road paves access to the cities main thoroughfares due to restrictions placed on the neighboring Area C, which is under Israel's military control making access to surrounding communities in the West Bank more difficult.

Workers here are seen building the city in March of 2015, which will eventually house 40,000 Palestinians.
